Culture At The Mic

October 16 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Creating culture, straight from the mic…

Culture at the Mic has been showcasing performing artists across the triangle for years. For the first time ever, they are opening the mic to anyone who has a performance art form they want to share. From poetry to music to comedy, come out to enjoy the talents of others or take the stage and share some art of your own!

We’ll be curating an intimate and supportive vibe with an elevated stage production to support everyone from first time performers to professionals. Our venue and homebase is The Portal HQ of Raleigh, an event space and creative hub where artists, musicians, and entrepreneurs can collaborate, perform, and grow.

As a special feature for this kickoff open mic experience, we will be hosting guest performer Too Black, a poet, scholar, organizer and filmmaker who blends critical analysis with biting sarcasm. He has a wealth of knowledge and advocacy channeled through a lifetime of speaking and performing and has headlined various stages and events including the historic Nuyorican Poets Café in New York City. Do not miss this special visit!

And last but not least, holding all this artistry together, your show will be hosted by the one and only Krystal Da Muse, the hostess with the mostest, here to ensure a seamless and beautiful experience.

While there are myriad ways to describe Miss Da Muse, the words of designer and illustrator Christoph Niemann are astoundingly relevant: “Amateurs wait for inspiration, professionals simply get up and go to work.” From executively producing one of the largest black tie poetry events in North Carolina (Inkspired), facilitating a monthly Gospel Open Mic, to being on stages with various celebrities such as Big Freedia, Tank and the Bangas, and Mike Epps, she has touched every level of entertainment with her gift and she’ll be bringing it to the Culture at the Mic stage every single time.

About The Portal HQ:

The Portal HQ is more than just a venue—it’s a vibrant creative playground designed to bring people together and spark inspiration. Founded by NC State alumni, The Portal HQ was born from a shared vision: to create a space where creativity thrives and community flourishes.

At its core, The Portal HQ is about connection—connecting artists, innovators, and community members in a space that celebrates collaboration and creativity. It’s not just where events happen; it’s where ideas come to life.

*Artist performances may involve mature themes and alcohol will be served.
