One of the great privileges of NC is its depth of cultural inspirations…
In collaboration with Sophie’s Grill and Bar:
Eastern Europe meets Cary, North Carolina. Celebrate old world flavors and learn about family recipes and traditions.
With this experience you will explore authentic flavors from the countries of Bulgaria, Georgia, Ukraine, and Armenia. Each plate will have a country of focus and a different wine pairing to highlight the flavors of the dish.
To begin the culinary journey, a Bulgarian salad will be paired with a special Bulgarian white wine called Traminer, followed by a Georgian lamb stew for the main course. A vegetarian option will be available as well, and both main course options will pair perfectly with a private label Georgian wine bottled just for Sophie’s. Sweet, red dessert wine from Ukraine and an Armenian dessert will wrap up the travel itinerary for the evening.
Sophie’s Grill is a family endeavor helmed by first generation immigrants to America. Owner and chef Desislava or “Desi” hails from Bulgaria and started her restaurant as a way to share the love and hospitality of her grandmother’s cooking. Her staff is comprised of herself and her co-executive chef, Chef Paul, Sommelier Simeon, and Pastry Chef Neli also from Bulgaria.
