Poetry like you’ve never heard it before…
In collaboration with CAM Raleigh:
Culture At the Mic is a monthly showcase of talented local artists hosted by the Contemporary Art Museum of Downtown Raleigh. Our goal is to create an intimate and powerful environment where the focus is on the artists and creating an open dialogue with their audience.
Laugh, cry, and yell as these performances bring you into a world of heartfelt words, beautiful refrains, cutting rhymes and ultimately change your expectations around what poetry can be.
Purpose – Halima Opata, known as Purpose, the poet, is a shining example of how personal passion can evolve into a life’s calling. From Laurinburg, North Carolina, to North Carolina A&T State University, her journey has been marked by a deep connection to poetry and a commitment to using her voice to inspire and connect with others.
With a mission to broaden perspectives and foster empathy, Purpose’s poetry serves as a lens through which we can view the world differently. By delving into the depths of human experience, she encourages us to embrace our stories, both the beautiful and the challenging, in all their complexity. Through her art, Purpose strives to create a sense of connection, reminding us that we’re never truly alone in our struggles and triumphs.
Talia Dalton – Talia is a 23 year old multi-faceted singer/songwriter who has been writing music for over a decade and singing her entire life. She’s won 2 national songwriting competitions and is currently working on self-recording and releasing her music to the public. Her fresh and heartfelt style will keep you asking for that release date!
Quame – “Quame (Tyran Speights), hailing from the soulful city of Columbia, SC, is a poet and lyricist extraordinaire. With a pen as sharp as her wit, Quame crafts verses that paint vivid imagery and evoke deep emotions. Quame moves the people with the words that she spells, and will have your body grooving by her last word. She’s a poet and lyricist on a mission to captivate hearts and minds with her soul-stirring verses.
When she’s not lost in the rhythm of her poetry, you might catch Quame perfecting her freestyle skills. Who knows when inspiration will strike? With each word penned and every rhyme dropped, Quame invites you on a journey through the depths of her mind, to grasp the essence of art.” – Ki’Ana Speights
Holding all this artistry together, your show will be hosted by the one and only Krystal Da Muse, the hostest with the mostest, here to ensure a seamless and beautiful experience…
And all this made possible by CAM Raleigh, a non-collecting contemporary art museum that provides an environment for transformation through educational programs, cultural experiences, and bold, non-traditional exhibitions by living artists.
In creating experiences like this, CAM is working to transform the artistic landscape of Raleigh by investing in more platforms for local artists with a powerful message.
***Artist performances often involve mature themes and alcohol will be served***
