There are few things in life more precious than expressing affection. Whether it is to a loving partner or a dear friend, “I love you” is one of the best phrases we get to say as humans. This evening is all about doing that in the most authentic way you can:
Visit Decree Company, an immaculately designed Downtown Raleigh Shop focused on finding inspiration in the ordinary. One of their specialties is creating gorgeous, hand-pressed stationary and they have invited everyone to come learn letterpressing for themselves.
Discover this magical process as you mix your own custom color ink, learn how to print different types of designs, and even practice scoring your cards for the folding process. You will take home 20 of your own letterpressed cards along with a variety of beautiful envelope colors. In addition to the workshop itself, you’ll get to tour century old letterpress machinery and peruse a gorgeous shop of fine gifts laid out like an art gallery.
To fully complete this valentines themed experience we are bringing in poetic and creative writing professional Johnny Lee Chapman III. He is a storyteller, performer, and public artist that has performed locally and nationally, been involved with art projects along New Bern Avenue and the Gipson Play Plaza at Dorothea Dix, and has self-published two books. One of his most profound writing genres is romance and he will be leading you in a beginner-friendly writing lesson centered around love letters. You will learn how to use approachable writing tools to communicate powerful emotion in a way that feels authentic and original.
Whether you want to send something romantic to a partner or something thoughtful to an appreciated friend, this workshop is the perfect way to create something truly special just from you. And if you are attending with the letter’s recipient, you could even seal your letters together on the night of the workshop, only to be opened on Valentines day.
