Kintsugi, the Art of Healing – Gold Pottery Mending and Creativity Retreat

January 22, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

$155.00

We all need reminders to stay optimistic and love all the parts of ourselves…

In collaboration with Sweet Peas Urban Gardens:

No matter how complicated life gets it’s important to celebrate the flaws and missteps of life as a part of its beauty, not to hide them away. The ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi can help us accept our flaws and embrace what feels broken as in fact beautiful!

Join Annelies Gentile, an executive integrative life and leadership coach, speaker, author, and artist as she leads you on a creativity retreat exploring the 15th-Century practice of Kintsugi, meaning “to join with gold”. The precious nature of gold used to fuse pieces together signifies the strength, confidence and value encouraged to transform our own breaks into valuable unique marks of beauty. It is important that the method of repair in kintsugi is gold — strong, but beautiful at the same time, and most importantly, noticeable. The essence of Kintsugi is about recognizing the beauty in the broken and the unbroken.

This 3-hour retreat includes:
A guided meditation followed by a materials-provided Kintsugi honoring experience where you may choose to repair your own broken piece of pottery, to break a piece of your own before repairing it, or to select a piece to break provided by Annelies.
Water and tea refreshments will be offered as well as some light farm to table treats courtesy of Sweet Peas Urban Gardens. The goal of this experience is to honor the healing and creative process by emphasizing that they are powered by connection not perfection.

Lastly, this event will take place at Sweet Peas Urban Gardens, a small urban farm making a big difference in how Raleigh does sustainable agriculture. They work constantly to host community workshops like this one that empower everyone to connect more deeply with themselves and the world around them as well as to sustainably grow all kinds of produce right in their backyard. From learning to grow mushrooms to flowers and everything in between, Sweet Peas is an incredible community resource.
