Poetry like you’ve never heard it before…
In collaboration with CAM Raleigh:
People-First Poetry is a monthly showcase of talented local artists funded and hosted by the Contemporary Art Museum of Downtown Raleigh. Our goal is to create an intimate and powerful environment where the focus is on the artists and creating an open dialogue with their audience.
Laugh, cry, and yell as 3 performances bring you into a world of heartfelt words, beautiful refrains, cutting rhymes and ultimately change your expectations around what poetry can be.
This show’s artists will be…
Wild Perfection – Debrita, aptly coined “Wild Perfection”, is a passionate actress, compelling author and engaging poet. This Raleigh native and has been a mainstay in the NC poetry community for years, headlining slams and open mics throughout the triangle. She brings her actor’s mindset and powerful presence to the stage to create a cinematic world where the audience can feel like they are the main characters in her poems.
Humble Rodent – R. Craig Prince, locally known as Humble Rodent, is a poet and community builder that has been performing in the Raleigh area for the past half a decade. He believes poetry is our pathway back towards listening to our communities and ourselves. His heartfelt and rhythmic style has been deeply shaped by Raleigh’s spoken word tradition and he is honored to help local poetry and local poets flourish however he can.
Nick Courmon – Nick Courmon is a native of Greensboro, NC and a current Graduate Student at North Carolina Central University. His mosaic and clever poetic voice captures both a personal and public view of American life. He has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, NBC’s TODAY, and VICE News and has worked with organizations such as National Black Theatre Festival, the NC African American Cultural Celebration, the NC African Film Festival, and the Mother Drum Healing Arts Foundation Festival. His highest honor, however, is being his mama’s son.
Holding all this artistry together, your show will be hosted by the one and only Krystal Da Muse, the hostest with the mostest, here to ensure a seamless and beautiful experience..
And all this made possible by CAM Raleigh, a non-collecting contemporary art museum that provides an environment for transformation through educational programs, cultural experiences, and bold, non-traditional exhibitions by living artists. In creating experiences like this, CAM is working to transform the artistic landscape of Raleigh by investing in more platforms for local artists with a powerful message.
