Craft Broom Making at BaySix

February 7 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$39.00
Join Sarah Ann Austin of Legacy Prints and Paper for a hands-on workshop on the traditional craft of broom making.

In collaboration with Art for All NC Nonprofit, and with special thanks to Bay Six for providing the venue:

Learn to create two beautiful and functional Appalachian brooms: the turkey wing whisk broom and the tiny loop broom. The turkey wing broom is a stunning example of Appalachian folk art. Its unique shape and intricate construction make it a conversation piece as well as a useful tool. The tiny loop broom is a smaller, more delicate broom that is perfect for dusting delicate items or sweeping up small messes. Both brooms are made with natural broomcorn, a type of sorghum grass that is known for its durability and flexibility. Learn the traditional techniques for binding and shaping the broomcorn to create a sturdy and attractive broom.

This workshop is suitable for all skill levels. You will leave with a deep appreciation for the traditional craft of broom making and two beautiful and functional brooms to enjoy for years to come.
